One
of the projects I worked on in the spring of '98
while at Brian Cole Models and Special Effects in Toronto was
the 'Terry Gilliam-esque" (Brazil) antique
typewriters that are seen being banged away on by
what appeared to be thousands of monkeys. Using
computer generated effects and shot in a Montreal
church, the monkeys at work make up a series of
Molson Canadian ads with the slogan "I am".
The top mounted camera units that watch what the
monkeys are typing has not yet been installed on
the photographed typewriter, nor has the 'swizzle'
style cellular antenna that broadcasts the video
signal. The beauty of this particular project was
that Brian had built props for Terry Gilliam's Baron
Von Munchausen film, which is why the art director
chose this look for the campaign in the first place.
